“The awe-inspiring beauty of that moment sparked my deep-seated interest in photography,” he shares.
Starting with an iPhone 5c, Yao Fui’s early days were filled with experimentation.
“During college, I borrowed DSLR cameras from friends to practice,” he recalls.
His dedication paid off in 2019 when he bought his first camera, a Sony A6400.
Upgrading to full-frame lenses and eventually to a Sony A7C, Yao Fui expanded his interests from street and landscape photography to wildlife.
“Thanks to a contest I saw, the 2023 Tamron Wildlife, I bought a specialised lens, the Tamron 70-180mm, to capture nature’s details up close,” he explains.
Yao Fui’s photography style is an evolving blend of personal observations and emotions.
“I find beauty in seeking out reflective surfaces in my surroundings, leveraging them to capture stunning images,” he says. As Yao Fui continues to grow, he remains open to experimenting with different styles and genres, ensuring continuous growth and discovery.

Yao Fui’s experience with Tamron lenses began in 2019 when he purchased the Tamron 28-75mm, his first full-frame lens.
“I was initially drawn to this lens because of its close-up shooting capabilities and lightweight design,” Yao Fui recalls.

Travelling to new destinations and encountering diverse cultures add depth and authenticity to his work. One memorable experience for Yao Fui occurred during a trip to Bangkok, where he attended a traditional Thai funeral.
“Initially, the atmosphere seemed ordinary, but as the ceremony progressed, it transformed into a profoundly beautiful scene,” Yao Fui recalls.
The setting sun bathed the temple in a golden glow, creating a serene ambiance.
“This experience reminded me of the profound beauty that can emerge from moments of grief,” he reflects.
Another significant photograph for Yao Fui captures a moment where a monkey gazes inquisitively at a flower. The monkey’s contemplative posture reminds him to find solace in the present moment.
Serendipitous moments are also essential in Yao Fui’s photography journey. One such moment occurred at the Mae Klong Train Market in Bangkok.
“I was preparing to capture a photo of the approaching train when it arrived faster than expected,” he recalls.
In that fleeting moment, a child emerged from the crowd and lightly touched the passing train.
“This encounter encapsulated the beauty of the unexpected,” Yao Fui describes.

“Despite the simplicity of the resulting images, a profound sentiment stirred within me,” Yao Fui reflects.
