July 15, 2026 – Tamron Co., Ltd. (President & CEO: Shogo Sakuraba; Headquarters: Saitama City, Japan) announces the launch of the 12-20mm F2.8 (Model A084), a fast-aperture ultra wide-angle zoom lens compatible with Sony E-mount and Nikon Z mount full-frame mirrorless cameras.
The defining feature of the 12-20mm F2.8 is its ultra-wide focal range, from 12mm to 20mm. The overwhelming breadth of the 12mm perspective enables dynamic expression that captures the entire expanse of a scene. With a bright F2.8 aperture maintained throughout the entire zoom range, this lens is poised to become the go-to choice for astrophotography and interior shooting.
The optical system incorporates an XGM (eXpanded Glass Molded Aspherical) lens element, three GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) lens elements, and multiple special lens elements. This design effectively suppresses peripheral blurring and colour fringing while correcting sagittal coma flare, ensuring high sharpness from the centre to the extreme edges of the frame.
Despite its exceptional imaging performance, the lens measures just 119.3mm (4.7in) in length and weighs only 570g (20.2oz), striking a sophisticated balance of size and weight. It remains a professional-grade tool equipped with various switches and rings for superior operability.
For autofocus, the lens features VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive), a high-speed, high-precision linear motor focus mechanism. With an MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 0.18m (7.1in) at the 12mm wide end, it also offers outstanding close-up performance.
